Lodging in the Red Barn at Green Rabbit Farm

Wake up on a Saturday morning to the intoxicating aroma of sourdough bread wafting up from our downstairs bakery.  Glance out your windows at blossoming blueberry vines and sheep grazing in the southern pasture.  Wander outside between the organic vegetable and flower beds and return to a breakfast of fresh bread, organic strawberry jam, local farmstead cheeses, berries (in season), and fairly traded coffee.  If you are unsure what to do for supper, allow us to set a table for you by the herb garden.  We can individualize a menu based on a selection of locally produced ingredients: grass fed meats, pastured poultry, farm fresh eggs, organic fruits and vegetables, and artisinal cheeses.

The barn flat offers a full size bed, full size futon, fully equipped modern kitchen, private bath with stall shower, private entrance, soft linens, fresh cut flowers, television with DVD player and access to 10 acres of organic fields to explore.  We are conveniently located 5 miles from the village of Hamilton (home of Colgate University and Seven Oaks Golf Course), 15 miles from the village of Clinton (home of Hamilton College), 4 miles from Bouckville (home of Madison-Bouckville Antique Shows) and 20 miles from the beautiful town of Cazenovia.

We accept a maximum of four guests and encourage a two night minimum.

There is no maid service until you check out.  Check out times are flexible.

Rates are available upon request (as they may vary with the time of year and length of stay)

We do not take credit cards.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

If you would like us to cater a dinner,

we can discuss the menu and price when you book your stay.

A special note regarding a few eccentricities about staying on our farm:

We have two loving dogs to whom we will introduce you upon your arrival.  Ruby is a chocolate labrador retriever (with a very gray face) who loves people, especially kids.  Gretta is a beautiful hound/ shepherd mix who is a bit shier than Ruby when it comes to making new friends.  They have free run of the farm so long as we are home.  If you are not comfortable with dogs, this may not be the ideal place for you to stay.

We wake up bright and early each Saturday morning to bake and pack up for the farmers market on the village green in Hamilton.  While we do our best to keep noise at a minimum, you might hear a little bustle from below and we feel that it is only fair to warn you of this possibility.

And finally, we have a small flock of hens and a rooster or two.  True to stereotype, the rooster crows at the crack of dawn.  If you dont find traditional farm sounds charming (or acceptable), this may not be the ideal place for you to stay.

A short note about who we are and where we come from:

Aaron Locker and Suzanne Slomin moved to Madison, NY from Berkshire County, MA in 2001.  Aaron is a skilled mason and a passionate organic grower who has spent much of his life working on organic vegetable farms and dairies.  Suzanne is a Colgate alumna (Class of 1991).  She  trained at the French Culinary Institute in NYC and spent six years cooking professionally both in Manhattan and in the Berkshires.  She left the kitchen to learn about organic farming in 1999.  She is a self taught artisinal bread baker who works exclusively with naturally leavened breads.
